Communication, which is a general function in business and social life, ensures the realisation of vital processes such as product and service production, social cohesion, the spread of ideas, and interpersonal relations.
In the ARUCAD Communication Design and Management programme, an integrated curriculum based on art and communication-based design and the professional planning and management of communication has been created.
Throughout their training, the students of the department are committed to designing and strategically combining creative and qualified communication content, communication processes, corporate communication actions, corporate communication tools and media, which are necessary for the specific target audiences of different types of sectors such as the business world, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, with an artistic perspective. They will learn to manage. In this way, students will graduate equipped with holistic skills and knowledge, having an equal command of the academic-scientific and artistic-creative aspects of the profession.
Graduates of the department will be able to work as corporate communication experts in business, public organisations and non-governmental organisations as communication professionals who simultaneously master both aspects of the communication profession; that is, the artistic-design aspect of communication and the managerial aspect of communication.

This course aims to teach students communication theories and the elements, modes and forms of communication. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the field of communication and basic concepts of communication. The course starts from the foundations of communication; and includes language, discourse and representation problems.
- CODE 101 Fundementals of Business and Economics
Fundamentals of Business and Economics is a basic introductory course in which students acquire knowledge that allows them to be familiar with concepts of economics, business and administration tools, so students can interpret business reality from a systematic and global perspective.
- COMM 103 Media Literacy
In the course, media literacy, media literacy in the world and media literacy in Cyprus will be examined. Answer to the question of “why is media literacy necessary?” will be sought. In the course, the impact of mass media and presented content on social, cultural and economic life depending on the consumption habits of the target audience will be examined.
- DIME 101 Media Skills
This course introduces students to various sharing environments where they can edit content over the internet and the basics of social media tools and terminology. Students will learn the tools for blogging, basics of web design and they will be able to learn to create and share content on different social media platforms in this course.
- VCDE 111 Basic Design
Basic Design is a fundamental course, structured upon and around the needs of students perusing design major. This course is compulsory and created in order to build a strong foundation for further, more advanced courses in visual communication design.
- SOFL 101 Academic English I
Students who regularly attend this course; They will have the opportunity to practice a range of study skills, including but not limited to goal setting, organization, time use, concentration and note taking. Students will be given important articles written in modern English and students will learn to discuss and write responses at an academic level. This course focuses on the theoretical part of Sign, Symbols & Representation. Teaching the fundamentals of Semiotics and preparing the student for their future projects with a better understanding and how and what can work and still create a meaning. This course is designed to help students to understand the digital transformation process. Within the scope of the course; the chronological development of digital transformation and application of technological innovations to business processes will be explained. In addition, the phenomenon of industry 4.0, which is defined as the fourth industrial revolution in the context of social history, will be discussed.

The course emphasizes a deep conceptual understanding of art historical concepts. Students will develop the essential skills of visual and contextual analysis. By examining works of art from diverse cultures and the relationships among these works, students develop an understanding of global artistic traditions. Students analyze works of art in their contexts, considering issues of patronage, gender, politics, religion, and ethnicity. The interpretation of the work of art is based upon its intended use, audience, and the role of the artist and the work of art in its particular society. Students will expand their knowledge of history, geography, politics, religion, languages, and literature, as they explore the story of people as told through the art they created. The yearlong course is designed to be a chronological examination of art through units of study that are adapted from chapters in the textbook.
- CODE 207 Design Culture for Corporate Identity
In this unit students will recognize design as an integral part of culture and society through recent history, contemporary practice and futuristic visions. Through analysis of case studies from the most critical and cutting edge designs and technologies of different disciplines in crucial periods in time (since the industrial revolution to our days) we will discuss how design professions and practice have evolved to a contemporary multidisciplinary practice. Key examples of designs and designers in different media (including, but not limited to books, magazines, films and websites) will also be analyzed and contextualized. The unit will explore past, present and futuristic roles of design in society, by understanding movements, trends and lifestyles through analysis and discussion of influences and relationships between design ‘products’ (including graphics, objects, environments and digital outcomes, corporate identity among others) and different people within multiple cultures and contexts.

- COMM 202 Sociology of Communication
This course aims to facilitate a sociological way of understanding mass media in the current society. This course will provide students with a foundation in various sociological theories of communication from the early 20th century up to today.
- CODE 202 Integrated Marketing Communication
The objective of the course is to help students understand the principles and practices of marketing communications, involving tools used by marketers to inform consumers and to provide a managerial framework for integrated marketing communications planning.
- VCDE 202 Theory of Design
The course gives the information about the values which makes design possible in mind. It also aims to teach how design styles emerged according to the periods or designers’ different under-standing of design.
- VCDE 222 Publication Design
Focusing in the key between design and communication, this course will go through all the aspects of graphic design in a wider range by developing student’s skills in presenting visuals, graphical images and contents in a professional way. One of the goals of this course is to be able to create visual identity and a well-organized structure for all sort of media mostly focusing on magazines, catalogues, books and websites.

The purpose of this course is to familiarize you with the logic of social science inquiry, strategies of research design, and a variety of research methods. In other words, this course is about how social scientists do research. We will compare quantitative and qualitative approaches to social science research in terms of their epistemologies, their research design strategies, and the tools they offer for carrying out social science research.

This course aims to develop students’ understanding of the importance of brand equity as well as how to build, measure, and manage brand equity. It will cover topics in the utilities of branding, steps/process of building brands, methods of measuring brand equity, ways to leverage brand equity, strategies in managing brand portfolios, and management of brands over time, geographic boundaries, and market segments. Because of the importance of digital marketing and social media management in the process of branding, concepts and practices in these areas are discussed throughout the four modules. Additional emphasis is placed on market intelligence and data analytics as they become critical tools for brand success.

The aim of this course is to provide education on the design logic of detailed and illustrative graphic works that are prepared to enable easy understanding of intensive data in terms of content and meaning. During the lessons, different applications will be carried out on the visualization of large amounts of data that are difficult to perceive in text form with the help of graphic elements and illustrations.

This course will introduce you to a variety of musical styles outside the Western art music tradition and within cultural, social and/or political contexts. You will acquire basic knowledge about specific music traditions and will learn to write critically about music as an aspect of culture and society. The study of music from a cultural perspective illustrates the important role of music as a means of expression grounded in religious, political, social, and cultural identity. The course will cover a wide range of music traditions from various parts of the world including Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Occasional guest musicians will give lecture/demonstrations in class to help you better understand a particular musical tradition.

This course provides a systematic and thorough introduction to all aspects of project management. Projects are an increasingly important aspect of modern business. Therefore, the course underlines the importance of understanding the relation between projects and the strategic goals of the organisation. In this course, students are required to bring together the knowledge and skills they have learned over the course of four years, to develop a strategic communication program and to implement a part of this program.

This course brings together the theoretical and practical applications of event planning. Students are required to plan, implement and conduct an analysis of an actual event. This course provides a synthesis of all planning, execution and post-event analysis. Such an event may be a benefit, arts and design industry event, entertainment event, trade show or an event in the fields of hospitality, marketing and advertising, or sports.

VCDE 207 Interpersonal Relationships and Communication
In this course it is aimed to increase awarnes of the importance of communication in the daily life and in the business life, to enhance them to solve their communication problems and improve their ability by developing empathy skills. They will gain the ability to interpret verbal communication as well as verbal communication, to send correct messages to those who are in communication, and to understand what they mean better at the end of this course.
VCDE 211 Vectorial Drawing
This course introduces students to the Vectoral drawing techniques. The course starts with training on drawing basic geometric forms using varying tools for creating vector shapes. Throughout the course as students learn to create more complex shapes, they will be asked either to re-draw or to create original graphic design elements like; patterns, icons, symbols, emblems, logos, perspective drawings and even vector character designs. Creating state of art vector illustrations is the main objective of this course.
VCDE 301 Illustration
This course introduces students to the basics of Illustration; its purpose and creative process. Illustration is about communicating a specific conceptualised message to a target audience. And this course focuses on hand-crafted methods of visualising any conceptual commission through creative process. Any drawing, painting or printed work of art which explains, clarifies, illuminates, visually represents, or decorates a written text is considered an illustration, a.k.a. commercial art. Throughout the course; students will be given various assignments to create such art works in order to learn how to utilise this discipline for visual communication or commercial purposes.
VCDE 403 Graphic Design in Cinema
This course is all about non-sequential graphic design and art works for Cinema, short films and animations. The course is primarily about designing a Key-Visual movie Poster for any kind of movie or short film in production. The core idea of this course is to be able to communicate by means of Visual Narratology, so that the viewer can understand what the movie is about through the poster and other similar graphic design works.
GAME 212 Introduction to Matte Painting
The students are introduced to the basic principles and techniques of digital matte painting which is used as a medium for games and cinema. Students Will learn and understand a natural environment and be able to include it in there work.
COMM 308 Creative Writing
Creative Writing is a class activity course that discovers many different genres of literary writing. Students supposed to write every day and work on their writing assignments each weekly. Students will read selections from well-known, appreciated writers and follow their style and specific genre. Students supposed to be imaginative enough to write and create characters and settings. Moreover, students will learn to write in a multiplicity of styles, such as analysis essays, subjective narratives, creative fiction, short stories, and poetry. Projects are anticipated to arrange for more practice with specific writing techniques that can be applied to many other literary genres.
COMM 312 Media Law and Ethics
Media Law and Ethics is a main course for Faculty of Communication students, which aims to understand the ethical concepts including freedom, democracy, truth, objectivity, honesty and privacy. The course examines the ethical issues both in philosophical and practical ways to help maintaining the quality of information. Also, the course introduces students to the basic legal concepts on media industry and media content relating to legal regulation of the telecommunications industry, information technology, broadcasting, advertising, the entertainment industry, censorship, and internet and online services among others.
COMM 314 Creative Industries
The aim of this course is to provide students with a detailed understanding of how the knowledge is produced and distributed, and it aims to introduce the verity of the media industries in which students might work in the future. Also this course is a study on how human creates and transforms the information.
