The Department of Photography is structured on the pressing problems in both visual and contemporary creative practices, generating research with an interdisciplinary and experimental approach.
The structure of the four-year BA (Hons) degree programme in Photography is built around helping students to achieve certain objectives through expressing and challenging themselves in an artistic and creative way.
The Department of Photography and Video at ARUCAD offers students an opportunity to participate in a four-year programme with its strong vision of interdisciplinary approaches.
The Department of Photography and Video provides you with extensive subject knowledge, technical expertise and opportunities to put what you learn into practice with work-related experience. ARUCAD will help you develop the technical skills ready for the working environment or a freelance career. You will develop research, organisational and writing skills that are transferrable to a wide range of other careers.

Born in 1973 in Istanbul. She completed her primary and secondary education in Istanbul. In 1992 She began her art education at The Photography Department of Mimar Sinan University’s Fine Arts Faculty, graduated in 1996 and the same year she went to the USA for research on photography and contemporary art. She has got her master’s degree in 2003, her Ph.D. in 2005 and Associate Professor title in 2011. Since 1989 Onat has been using photography as an expressional medium and her field of study focusing especially on the link between photography and other art disciplines and contemporary photography. She has participated in numerous national and international art exhibitions and events, won international awards, taken roles in academic projects and published academic contributions. She continues to give lectures on contemporary photography and photography techniques.
Asst. Prof. Dr. İsmail GökçeHead of Department
He graduated from Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio-TV and Cinema in 2002. He completed his Master’s degree at Marmara University in 2006 and his PhD in Arts at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2018, both in the Institute of Fine Arts, Department of Photography. He assisted photographers Wilbert Skip Norman and Coşkun Aral between 2000-2005. He was one of the founders of Galata Photography Academy in Istanbul. He participated in many group exhibitions, made photo presentations and delivered workshops and seminars at various associations and universities. He also held exhibitions at home and abroad, won prizes and served as a jury member in various photography competitions. His photographs has been published in local and foreign newspapers and magazines. He focuses on people in his photography. He created photography projects related to Gypsies and Maronites. He also created a documentary photography project about Turkish TIR drivers. He photographed European countries and wrote travel articles. He has been photo editor of the book ‘Kadir Kaba Seyreyleyen ve Seyreylenen Bir Alem’, and has consulted the book ‘The Origin of Turkish Cypriot Press Photography’.
